Marina Mabrey exploded for 53 points as the Toronto Tempo matched up against the Los Angeles Sparks this past week. She tied Aja Wilson and Liz Cambage for the WNBA single-game scoring record. Mabrey went 17-28 from the field and 9-18 from behind the arc in her matchup against the Sparks. It just seemed like one of those nights where a true shooter found her flow early and kept her foot on the gas the whole game.
Mabrey, who is from Belmar, New Jersey and went to Manasquan High School, was drafted by the Toronto Tempo, an expansion franchise added to the WNBA, in 2026. This offense, orchestrated by head coach Sandy Brondello, gives Mabrey space and is designed to let her move constantly, opening her up to shoot the ball. It is paying off more than most people anticipated.
Mabrey had 27 points by halftime and didn’t stop there. It wasn’t until the second half that the crowd at the Coca-Cola Coliseum realized they were witnessing something truly special.
This performance didn’t come out of nowhere. Let’s get that straight. Mabrey is averaging a career high 21.2 points this season, shooting 45.9% from the field and 40.3% from three-point range as she led the league in three pointers made this season.
Mabrey was the leading force on not only a legendary night for her but a legendary night for the record books for the Toronto Tempo and the WNBA as a whole. The team’s 125-point victory set a new league record for the most points scored in a regulation game. A truly legendary night overall for the WNBA and the 29-year-old from the Shore.
