The New York Jets found a way to pull out an ugly win over the Cleveland Browns in what was a sloppy, bad weather game to move to 2-3 on the season.
New York started off hot on the first drive in which Geno Smith hit Garrett Wilson who broke away for a long touchdown to put the Jets up 7-0.
After that though, this game became messy with the defenses shining and the offenses making mistakes.
For New York’s offense they just couldn’t finish drives and had multiple turnovers including one in the red zone. Braelon Allen had a big day running the ball with Breece Hall still out to injury. He rushed for 116 yards on 24 carries including the game-winning touchdown.
Smith did his best in the passing game given the conditions and didn’t turn the ball over but it’s hard to fully judge the passing game when it’s raining all game.
Wilson led the team in receiving as he had a big day with seven catches for 104 yards. He was the only bright spot out of all the pass catchers for New York.
This game was all about the defense for the Jets who held the Browns to under 200 yards of offense. They also had eight sacks on 13 pressures. Rookie David Bailey had his breakout game which included three sacks, he was the standout for the defense.
New York’s defense had Deshaun Watson and the offense locked up as they could barely get anything going.
The Jets realistically should have dominated this game, but because of multiple turnovers, Cleveland was able to stay in the game. To the point that they almost stole it.
With just a little over six minutes left, Watson hit Denzel Boston for the touchdown to take a 12–10 lead but the kicker crucially missed the extra point attempt.
New York was driving but a blind-slide sack caused Smith to fumble the ball. It looked like the Browns were going to be able to steal this game from the Jets which would have been another heartbreaking loss for New York.
Luckily for the Jets, the defense came up big for them and got a stop. On the punt, the ball went over the punter’s head and New York recovered in field goal range. Which ultimately, led to the Allen touchdown.
The Jets defense was able to get another clutch stop to secure the win in which was a much needed win for Aaron Glenn and his team.
This was a game the Jets normally don’t win, instead of finding a way to win they usually find ways to lose. Sunday was different though, they gutted through the mistakes, and still came up clutch in the moments that mattered to win.
With that win they now head to play division rival the New England Patriots who are 3-2 coming off back to back impressive wins over the Buffalo Bills and Las Vegas Raiders. Drake Maye has played at MVP form over the last two games.
This will be a tough task for the Jets to go on the road to beat New England. They have a chance to get back to .500 on the season. The key is they need to get pressure on Maye and their offense has to look sharp for them to have any chance of winning.
This is once again a big game and a big opportunity for the Jets to show what kind of team they are this season. Can they not only play a close game against a good team but can they find a way to win it?
In this type of game, a loss doesn’t do much but a win can change everything. A win can put the league on notice that the Jets are no easy out anymore.
