The New York Knicks hosted the San Antonio Spurs for Game Four of the finals at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night. San Antonio won game three in New York 107-106 to get back in the series. The Garden crowd was ready for game time.

San Antonio jumped out to an early 12-2 start after a Julian Champagnie dunk to force a Knicks timeout. OG Anunoby out of the timeout hit a corner three. Josh Hart in transition drove at Champagnie for the and-one. Victor Wembanyama banked in a hook shot and was talking to Mitchell Robinson. Robinson elbowed Wembanyama in the face and received a flagrant foul penalty one. Wembanyama clapped and said “I’m in your head.”

The Spurs made six threes in the first quarter and Devin Vassell had three of those. San Antonio was up 41-22. Anunoby and De’Aaron Fox traded threes to begin the second quarter. Jalen Brunson hit a tough shot over Fox and was looking for the foul. Stephon Castle threw a lob to Carter Bryant from half court. Dylan Harper made a corner three which was the Spurs 14th three of the first half. Those 14 threes were an NBA Finals record for most threes in a half. The Spurs led 76-49 at halftime.

Anunoby hit a wing three to get the scoring started in the third quarter. The Spurs led 81-52 and then the tide began to shift. Wembanyama picked up a flagrant foul after elbowing Karl-Anthony Towns. Wembanyama is one more flagrant away from suspension. Hart made a top of the key three to make it a 13-0 run for the Knicks. Brunson hit a tough and-one against Harper. New York would end the quarter with hope but the Spurs still led 90-75.

Harper drove right at Miles McBride for the layup to begin the fourth quarter. Jose Alvarado got a shooter’s bounce from three and Mikal Bridges made a layup to force a Spurs timeout. Towns hit a contested step-back three over Keldon Johnson with the shot clock winding down. Towns drove the baseline against Wembanyama and finished with a floater to cut the Spurs lead down to nine. Anunoby hit a corner three to cut the lead four and force a Spurs timeout.

Fox out of the timeout made a three over Towns. Alvarado made a big wing three to cut the lead back to four. Brunson hit a three over Wembanyama and the Garden was shaking. Brunson’s three made it a one point game. Fox turned the ball over as Hart stole, but missed the layup in transition. Wembanyama missed two free throws and Brunson hit a floater over Castle that gave the Knicks their first lead of the game. Castle got fouled on a put back attempt by Hart. Castle made both free throws and forced a Knicks timeout.

The ball was batted out and Anunoby had a chase down block against Fox. Brunson missed a three and then Anunoby skied high for the tip-in to give the Knicks the lead. Castle caught the inbound from Harper but couldn’t get a shot off. The Knicks pulled off the largest comeback (29 points) in post season history. New York won 107-106.

New York completed the largest comeback at 29 points which surpassed the 2008 Celtics where they came back down from 24 against the Lakers.

Wembanyama led the way for the Spurs with 24 points on 9/25 shooting and 13 rebounds. Fox and Vassell both had 18 points. Castle had 13, and Harper had 21 points off the bench. For the Knicks, Brunson led the way with 36 points, five rebounds, and seven assists. Anunoby had 33 points and seven threes. Towns had 13 points and 10 rebounds for the double-double. Alvarado had big moments down the stretch and had eight points in 16 minutes.

New York leads the series 3-1. Game Five will be back in San Antonio Saturday, June 13 at 8:30 pm.
