PATH SmartLink Cards End August 31

By Gerald D'Ambra

NEW YORK/NEW JERSEY — The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced that PATH’s SmartLink cards will no longer be accepted starting Sept. 1, 2026. August 31 is the final day for SmartLink and MetroCard use on PATH.

Ninety-six percent of riders already use the new TAPP system. Remaining SmartLink balances must be used by Aug. 31 or transferred to a TAPP card by February 2027 by contacting 800-234-7284.
“The day has come to sunset SmartLink as we complete the introduction of TAPP to PATH riders,” said Port Authority Chairman Kevin O’Toole.
TAPP accepts reloadable cards or contactless credit/debit cards and digital wallets. SmartLink debuted in 2007.
