TRENTON — New Jersey Attorney General Jennifer Davenport and the Division of Criminal Justice announced the arrest of Joshua Kohut, 51, of Cranbury, dean of research at Rutgers University’s School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, on charges of fourth-degree invasion of privacy.
Kohut is alleged to have recorded “upskirt” videos of an individual without their knowledge using his mobile phone while at the university. A search warrant executed on August 24, 2026, led to the seizure of devices. Forensic examination revealed videos of the victim’s undergarment-clad intimate parts.
“The defendant is alleged to have used his mobile phone to record ‘upskirt’ videos without his victim’s knowledge,” said Attorney General Davenport. “An invasion of privacy like this is not just disturbing, it is also a criminal act. We will prosecute accordingly.”
The charge carries a maximum sentence of 18 months in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Attorneys General Layli Khelafa and Sarah Milicia.
