Rising Star Schupansky Inks New Contract With Gotham FC

Gotham FC midfielder Sarah Schupansky, one of the league’s top rookies in 2025, has signed a contract extension through the 2027 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) season.

Schupansky, 22, joined Gotham ahead of the 2025 campaign after finishing her standout collegiate career at the University of Pittsburgh, where she led the nation with 15 assists as a senior. She has quickly become a centerpiece in Gotham’s midfield and a contender for Rookie of the Year.

The Pittsburgh native leads Gotham with five assists this season, tied for the most in the NWSL, and has already set a rookie club record in the category. She has also assisted in three consecutive matches, establishing another Gotham milestone. Earlier this year, she scored her first professional goal in a 3-0 win over the Washington Spirit and has started in 16 of her 18 league appearances.

“I am beyond excited and truly honored to be extending my contract with Gotham,” Schupansky said in a statement. “My time here has been nothing short of incredible, and it already feels like I’ve found a true home thanks to the amazing people I work with every day — from ownership and management to staff and teammates. I’m excited to keep building on what we’ve started and will continue to give everything I have to make this staff, this team, and this city proud.”

Gotham general manager and head of soccer operations Yael Averbuch West praised Schupansky’s impact in her first professional season. “Sarah has had a wonderful start to her young professional career, making numerous contributions to the club already,” she said. “We are incredibly excited to have Sarah here for the long term, and we cannot wait to see her grow even further.”

Before turning pro, Schupansky built a historic résumé at Pittsburgh. She scored seven goals and tallied six assists as a freshman and helped the program reach its first-ever NCAA tournament as a sophomore. By her junior year, she had established herself as one of the country’s top attacking players, finishing with 11 goals and 14 assists and becoming the first Panther named to the All-ACC first team. Her senior campaign cemented her legacy, as she recorded a nation-leading 15 assists and earned second-team All-ACC honors.

Schupansky also spent time in the United Soccer League (USL) W League with Racing Louisville’s development squad in 2023, gaining valuable experience before entering the professional ranks. Earlier this year, she received her first U.S. Youth National Team call-up, joining the U-23 squad for friendlies against Germany.

With her extension secured through 2027, Gotham has locked in a midfielder who blends vision, creativity, and work rate well beyond her years. Schupansky’s rapid adjustment to the professional game has already made her one of the most reliable playmakers in the league, and her ceiling remains even higher. For Gotham, her growth represents not only a cornerstone of their long-term roster strategy but also a signal of intent as the club continues to push toward competing for NWSL championships.

In just her first season, Schupansky has gone from a record-setting college star to one of the most influential young players in the league. Now, with a long-term deal in place, she stands as both a rising star for Gotham FC and a vital piece in shaping the club’s championship ambitions for years to come.
