Police are investigating, after a man was fatally shot in Newark. Officers responded to the 300 block of Avon Avenue and found the victim, 33-year-old Michael Howard, suffering from bullet wounds in a car. Howard was pronounced dead at the hospital.

A New Jersey woman was killed by her son in Miami Beach after flying down to check on him. Police found the body of Elizabeth Caruso in the first-floor trash room of the son’s apartment building.

People in Evesham Township gathered for the John R. Elliott HERO Campaign, marking the 25th anniversary of his death. Elliott was killed by a drunk driver after graduating the U.S. Naval Academy. The initiative allows residents to pledge to serve as designated drivers.

Attorney General Pam Bondi has fired a federal prosecutor whom New Jersey’s federal judges had named to replace the state’s interim U.S. attorney, Alina Habba, a Summit native. The 120-day term expires Friday at midnight.
