As summer ends, the heat still blazes at Montclair State University, but drills and dry-land practices are just starting for the Montclair State University Men’s Ice Hockey team. The team is gearing up for a wild and memorable season in 2026-2027.
2025-2026 Season
The Red Hawks went into the season with a tough opener. Montclair State had to face a dominant West Chester University (Pennsylvania) team. Then they faced an even tougher Misericordia University team. The team took the losses to West Chester and Misericordia and used them as fuel to win the home opener.
That is exactly what happened on September 20, 2025, when the Red Hawks won their home opener against the Rider University Broncos 7-6 in overtime. The Red Hawks would go on to have an amazing home record with a poor away record. On January 17, the Red Hawks celebrated their seniors with a home game hosting Siena College. The Red Hawks would make the first round of the SECHL playoffs but would lose to Clarkson University.
2026-2027 Season
This season the Red Hawks are feeling a lot more confident going in. The SECHL will be divided into East and West. Montclair State will play in the East of the SECHL. Montclair State will not have the stress of playing against West Point because they got bumped up to the Division 1 club level.

The Red Hawks will open their season on Friday September 18 traveling down to Rowan University. The home opener will be on October 9 when the Red Hawks will host Marist University. Senior Night will be on Friday January 29, 2027 as the last home game of the season with Fairfield University. The regular season will end that Saturday January 30, 2027 at Marist University.
The team will be led by captain defenseman Anthony Vella, assistant captains: forwards Greg Oliveri, Braden Ryan, and Marcos Trasbach.
Looking Forward
The Redhawks are looking for an ultimate redemption season. The stress of Clarkson University and West Point University being gone from the Red Hawks’ schedule. This season is looking fly for the ice hockey Red Hawks. Even though Montclair State hockey is a club sport, nothing stops the home crowd from coming to cheer on the ice hockey Red Hawks.
