‘Big Rusty’ Statue in Burlington County Vandalized

Police are searching for three suspects they believe vandalized an art installation in Hainesport.

Bordentown Troopers discovered the ‘Big Rusty’ statue had “multiple graffiti markings.” The 20-foot statue is the creation of a Copenhagen-based artist who used trash and recycled elements to make it come alive. Thomas Dambo and his team of about 12 artists finished the installation in July. The work is part of the “Way of the Bird King” sculpture series, and is one of 10 trolls in locations across the state.

‘Rusty’ is located off Route 38 South near South Branch Rancocas Creek.   The installation made from 100 square meters of a condemned pottery factory, including a rusty metal roof, a plywood attic, different electrical equipment, a concrete wall and wood.

The NJSP is seeking to identify the three pictured males for the vandalizing investigation. Anyone with information or who recognizes the suspects are asked to contact Trooper Joseph Couzo at the NJSP Bordentown Station at (609) 298-1171 x 5174. Anonymous tips are welcome.
