Toe-tally Clutch: Lindor’s Pinch-Hit Heroics Push Mets Past Rockies
Out of the starting lineup with a fractured pinky toe, New York Mets’ shortstop Francisco Lindor delivered a pinch-hit two-run double in the ninth that cracked open a 2-2 tie and capped a wild 4-2 win over the Rockies in Denver.

NL’s First Team to 40 Wins, New York Mets’ ‘Big Three’ Power Series Opener
On a night where New York stranded twelve runners and started out a little rocky (get it?) at Coors Field, their broken-toe Captain showed up big time and lifted them to win No. 40.

Juan Soto: The Catalyst, the Traffic Director, the One-Base Machine
Juan Soto set the tone with a 3-for-4 night—his first three-hit game as a Met—including three singles and a walk. He was involved in all the noise, including a turn-around out to second baseman Ronny Mauricio to nab Mickey Moniak of a double, freezing the go-ahead run in scoring position in the seventh.

After scoring the game-tying run in the seventh off Pete Alonso’s go-ahead double, Soto reached again in the ninth with a two-out single, then watched Pete work a walk behind him.

When Lindor laced an inside cutter down the line into right field, Soto wheeled home with ease, but Alonso’s dash from first became another highlight-reel play of the night.

Soto—the outfield general and apparently a base coach—turned midair and signaled for Pete to get down. Alonso hooked his left leg around the tag at the plate and was ruled safe after review.
Pete Alonso: Doing It All
At this point, Pete Alonso is more than the team’s offensive anchor—he’s the axis the Mets spin on. His two-run double in the seventh flipped the script, snapped an 0-for-8 with RISP skid, and brought life to a dugout searching for rhythm.

But he wasn’t done. Before his ninth-inning hustle scored the winning run, he kept the Mets in striking distance with a heads-up throw home on a grounder in the fifth, cutting down what would’ve been the Rockies’ second run of the night.

Now leading the league in doubles (20), RBI (57), and possibly hero moments, Alonso’s all-around impact draws deserved praise, especially from his shortstop.
“This is going to be the best year of his career,” Lindor said postgame. “I think he’s going to end up with one of the best Mets seasons ever, probably.”

Baty’s Big Moment
The Rockies nearly flipped the game in the eighth after loading the bases on Ryne Stanek with nobody out. But Brett Baty, calm and confident, plucked a scorcher out of the air at third and turned a one-man double play, tagging the runner before he could get back to the bag. Stanek then caught Brenton Doyle swinging to end the inning.

Senga Guts It Out
Starting pitcher Kodai Senga battled through the altitude and his pitch count in his Coors Field debut, throwing a career-high 109 pitches over six innings. He allowed just one run, k’d six, stranded traffic when he had to, and handed it to the bullpen with the game still very much alive.
