Gotham FC has transferred midfielder Sarah Schupansky to Boston Legacy FC in exchange for $50,000 in general allocation money and $30,000 in intraleague transfer funds, the club announced Friday.
Schupansky joined Gotham ahead of the 2025 season after a standout collegiate career at the University of Pittsburgh. She made 49 appearances across all competitions during her two seasons with the club, recording one goal and eight assists.
The move brings an end to Schupansky’s time with Gotham after she helped the club win three trophies, including the 2024-25 Concacaf W Champions Cup, the 2025 NWSL Championship and the 2026 NWSL Challenge Cup.
Schupansky made an immediate impact during her rookie NWSL season in 2025, recording five regular-season assists, tied for the second-most in a single season in club history.
The $50,000 in general allocation money acquired from Boston will remain available to Gotham through the 2027 season. Under current NWSL rules, most existing allocation money across the league must be spent or withdrawn by the end of 2026, giving Gotham an additional year to use the funds acquired in the transaction.
Schupansky will also reunite with former Gotham teammates Lily Reale, Ella Stevens and Josefine Hasbo in Boston.
“I’m beyond grateful and excited to be joining Boston Legacy. Thank you to the entire organization for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to be part of such an incredible club,” Schupansky said. “I’m honored for the chance to contribute to this team and help them build the legacy that this city deserves. I can’t wait for what’s to come!”
Gotham president of soccer operations Yael Averbuch West thanked Schupansky for her contributions to the club and highlighted the professionalism and dedication she brought throughout her time in New Jersey.
“Sarah has played an important role at Gotham FC over the past two seasons, and we’re grateful for the contributions she has made to our group,” Averbuch West said. “She has approached every day with professionalism, dedication and a commitment to the club, and we’re proud to have played a part in the beginning of her professional career. We wish Sarah continued success in this next chapter.”
Schupansky now joins Boston Legacy FC as the club continues to establish itself in the NWSL, with the opportunity to continue her young career alongside several players she already knows from her time with Gotham.
