Devils Defeat Rangers For First Time This Season: Jack Hughes Does It Again

By Jordan Beaudoin

The New Jersey Devils took on the New York Rangers at the Prudential Center on Saturday afternoon. The game took place at 3 p.m. It was full of excitement, marking the first face-off of the season between New York and New Jersey. This game also kept the Devils’ winning streak going. As of March 7, 2026, they have won four games in a row.

The Devils came out on top with a final score of 6-3. New Jersey took 35 shots, and several of them were able to make it into the goal post. They scored on all of their power plays, allowing them to forge ahead throughout the game. Fans were allowed to see the team that they had been looking forward to all season long.

It was only moments into the game when the Devils’ Jesper Bratt scored the first goal of the afternoon. Bratt scored a goal using a one-timer shot from the right circle. He took the puck after a faceoff, and because it never hit the ice, it is considered a one-timer shot. Cody Glass and Johnathan Kovacevic assisted Bratt. The Devils led the game for a while before the score was tied up on numerous occasions during both the first and the second period.

However, in tonight’s game, the star who truly shone for the Devils was Jack Hughes. He scored in the second period during a power play with the assistance of Bratt and Dougie Hamilton. Hughes scored twice again in the third period, putting the Devils ahead with a final score of 6-3.

On his last goal, Hughes completed the hat trick, which allowed the Devils to take home the win at the Prudential Center. He has had a huge hockey season so far, and in tonight’s matchup, it continued to show.

Jack Hughes has been an incredible asset, both scoring the winning goal in the Winter Olympics gold medal game and now getting back on the ice for New Jersey. He has made a complete turnaround so far this year. He has missed a lot of games, considering he has been out injured on several occasions, but he is definitely someone the Devils should keep on their roster for the next several years. If Hughes is not on the ice, the Devils are going to have a downfall, and in the last few weeks with him being there, they have definitely kept up with everything.

If New Jersey can keep this streak up, it may make it to the playoffs this year. The Devils have worked hard this season despite having two losing streaks. The only thing keeping them on the playoff horizon is Jack Hughes. If he continues playing as well as he has, the Devils will be heading to the playoffs this year and will be in the hunt for the Stanley Cup.
