HARRISON, NJ — Gotham FC turned in its most complete performance of the young season Saturday, defeating Bay FC 3-0 at Sports Illustrated Stadium to secure its first home win of the 2026 NWSL regular season.

From the opening whistle, Gotham dictated the tempo, combining fluid attacking movement with a disciplined defensive shape that left Bay FC with few answers. The hosts created a steady stream of chances in the opening stages and put the match out of reach with a three-goal burst before halftime.

Forced into adjustments along the back line due to injuries, Gotham saw Midge Purce shift to right back while Guro Reiten made her club debut on the left. The changes did little to slow the team’s cohesion, particularly in possession, where Gotham consistently progressed the ball through the midfield.

The Bats nearly struck inside five minutes. A well-worked sequence saw Jaelin Howell find Savannah McCaskill at the top of the area, but her right-footed effort drifted just wide.

Gotham continued to build momentum and came close again in the 11th minute. Rose Lavelle, operating between the lines, slipped a pass wide to Reiten, whose first-time cross picked out Jaedyn Shaw. Shaw’s header was on target, but Bay FC goalkeeper Jordan Silkowitz reacted quickly to make the save.

The pressure paid off in the 20th minute. Lavelle delivered a driven cross into the penalty area that found McCaskill. Her initial attempt was blocked, but the ensuing scramble forced Bay FC defender Karlie Lema into an own goal, giving Gotham a deserved 1-0 lead.

Lavelle remained central to Gotham’s attacking rhythm and nearly doubled the advantage in the 31st minute, weaving through defenders before sending a low shot toward the far corner that narrowly missed.

Gotham’s second goal came in the 41st minute and showcased both individual quality and team awareness. Rookie Jordynn Dudley collected the ball, sat down the defender with a sharp move and squared a pass to Lavelle, who calmly finished from close range to make it 2-0.

Moments later, Gotham struck again. In the 45th minute, Reiten played a precise ball forward that initiated another dangerous sequence. The move ended with Lavelle being brought down inside the area by Madeline Moreau, prompting a penalty. Esther González stepped up and converted from the spot, extending the lead to 3-0 just before halftime.

Gotham nearly added a fourth before the break when Reiten delivered another dangerous cross that found Lavelle, but her header sailed just over the crossbar.

The second half saw Gotham shift into a more controlled approach, maintaining possession and limiting Bay FC’s opportunities while still probing for additional goals. The visitors struggled to generate meaningful attacks and were largely contained by Gotham’s organized defensive structure.

Bay FC’s lone shot on target came in the 58th minute, when Ann-Katrin Berger was called into action. The Gotham goalkeeper produced a sharp, point-blank save to preserve the clean sheet, a reflection of an otherwise quiet afternoon for the back line.

Dudley’s performance was among the standout efforts for Gotham. The rookie not only recorded her first NWSL assist but also consistently threatened in the final third, combining well with Lavelle and Reiten.

“It felt really good,” Dudley said. “I had a lot of space and Rose, she’s all over the field, so I knew she was going to be there. And a good finish.”

Defender Tierna Davidson marked another key moment, making her first start since returning from injury and playing 66 minutes.

“It was really nice,” Davidson said. “It felt like a long time coming, so I’m very happy to have reached this benchmark. It’s another small step in the return process, and I’m very thankful that I was able to do it.”

Assistant coach Shaun Harris said the performance reflected a week of focused preparation, particularly in the attacking phase.

“It’s not a secret that we wanted to score more goals, but more importantly it’s about the process,” Harris said. “A lot of times we’re in the right position; we’re doing the right things and eventually it’s going to happen. We had a really good week of training, it was the first week everyone was back after the break, and we established what we wanted to do on the pitch. The players moved the ball well, played with freedom in the final third, and ultimately, we were clinical.”

Head coach Juan Carlos Amorós echoed that sentiment, emphasizing both the attacking output and defensive consistency.

“Today it’s our fourth clean sheet in six games, which is an unbelievable record,” Amorós said. “We wanted to score more goals. Today’s data, if you look at it, was very similar in terms of shots that we had against Corinthians and we lost 1-0 that game. But if we shoot 25 times and the opposition shot three times, every coach in the world will take that.”

Amid the attacking breakthrough, McCaskill quietly reached a personal milestone, making her 150th NWSL appearance as part of Gotham’s midfield engine.

The result marked a significant step forward for Gotham, whose attack had struggled to convert chances in the opening weeks of the season. On Saturday, the finishing matched the buildup, while the defense remained compact and composed to secure another clean sheet.

Gotham FC will look to build on the result when it travels to face Chicago Stars FC on Wednesday at 8 p.m.
