NJ/NY Gotham FC returns to action this Saturday with a chance to reset its season and its home form against Bay FC at Sports Illustrated Stadium, as NWSL play resumes following the latest FIFA international break.
Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET, with CBS carrying the national broadcast.
Gotham (1-2-2, 5 points) enters the weekend looking to bounce back from a 2-1 loss to the Kansas City Current before the break. In that match, Jaedyn Shaw found the net for the first time in the 2026 campaign, continuing a strong run of form in Kansas City where she has now scored in back-to-back appearances. Her attacking presence could be key for a Gotham side still searching for consistency in the final third.
Despite flashes of promise, Gotham’s biggest concern has been its home performances. The club has yet to win or even score at Sports Illustrated Stadium this season, a surprising drought for a team that has historically been strong in front of its home supporters. Saturday presents a clear opportunity to change that narrative against a familiar opponent.
Bay FC (2-2-0, 6 points) arrives in New Jersey after a 2-0 defeat to the Washington Spirit, a match in which they conceded twice in the second half. It marked their second loss in three matches, cooling off what had been a promising start to the season.
Still, Bay has shown it can perform on the road. In its only away match of the season so far, the club earned an impressive 3-1 victory over the North Carolina Courage. That result will give Bay confidence heading into a venue where Gotham has historically had the upper hand.
Since Bay FC joined the league, this matchup has leaned heavily in Gotham’s favor. Gotham holds a 3-0-1 all-time record in the series and has been especially dominant at home, outscoring Bay 7-2 in two meetings including a commanding 5-1 win in 2024.
A major factor in that success has been forward Esther González, who has consistently delivered against Bay. The Spanish international has recorded three goals and three assists in four career matches against the club, making her one of the most dangerous players in this fixture. She enters the weekend with 25 regular-season goals for Gotham, just three shy of matching Sam Kerr’s club record of 28.
Defensively, Gotham will once again rely on goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger, who has been a steady presence in this matchup. Berger has started all four previous meetings against Bay FC, conceding just three total goals and never allowing more than one in a single match.
Saturday’s contest could ultimately come down to whether Gotham can finally unlock its attack at home. The team has scored multiple goals in three of its four all-time matches against Bay, suggesting the matchup has historically brought out its offensive best. Replicating that success will be critical as Gotham looks to climb the standings.
Following the match, Gotham will quickly shift focus to a midweek road clash against Chicago Stars FC on Wednesday night.
For now, though, the focus is squarely on Saturday a chance to turn potential into production and reestablish Sports Illustrated Stadium as a fortress.
