Since being the 19th pick in the 2009 NHL Draft and making his debut on the ice in 2012, Chris Kreider has spent the last 13 seasons of his career being a force with the New York Rangers.
Prior to the exchange, Kreider had in place a no-trade list consisting of 15 teams, the Ducks being recently added as one of them. Shortly after waiving this, the Rangers took their chance and initiated the trade.
The left-winger was traded just three days ago in an exchange with the Anaheim Ducks. In addition to Kreider, the Ducks will be receiving a 2025 Fourth Round Pick, in turn sending Forward Prospect Carey Terrance and a 2025 Third Round Pick to the Big Apple.
Despite facing various health issues and overcoming challenges throughout the season, Kreider continued to give it his all and put up good numbers last season. Kreider scored 22 goals and had 8 assists, earning 30 points for the season. While these still stand as impressive numbers, this was a significant decrease from the 23-24 season, where he put up 39 goals and 36 assists.
Although a rocky final season with the team, Kreider has racked up an impressive set of statistics during his time with the Rangers. Across all 13 seasons, he has earned a total of 582 points, made up of 326 goals and 256 assists. A menace on the power play, he has a career of 116 power-play goals and 64 power-play assists. Not only that, but he has scored the game-winning goal 50 times.
Back in December of 2024, the team had a rough few games, leading to considerations and changes in the roster. After forming a trade, Rangers Captain Jacob Trouba was traded to the Ducks for a previously conditional 2025 Fourth Round Pick. Despite this, Trouba will now return from the off-season to the Ducks for the 2025-2026 season with the familiar face of Chris Kreider.
After a long and strenuous season, with countless losses and missing the playoffs, the Rangers organization was in desperate need of some changes and improvements. Taking the off-season as an opportunity to start anew, the teams’ management and coaching staff have decided that, amongst other things, their roster needs a refresh.
Kreider is officially switching out his red and blue for some orange and black, and fans remain shocked at the decisions made by Rangers management in their attempt at a rebuild. The big question left is, can these newcomers prove their strengths over the veterans, or have the Rangers made a big mistake?
