Turnpike & GSP Toll Increase Vetoed by Governor Murphy
Governor Murphy has vetoed the New Jersey Turnpike Authority’s proposed $2.62 billion budget, which includes a 3 percent toll increase on the Turnpike and Parkway. In a statement Murphy said he needed “more information” to justify a proposed toll hike. The authority bases toll increases on the money needed to fund the budget. The decision comes as New Jersey officials are fighting against congestion pricing set to go into effect next year in Manhattan.
Military Base Goes on Lockdown, Deemed Safe
Joint Base McGuire–Dix–Lakehurst was put on lockdown for about 20 minutes on Thursday after reports of an active shooter. It was called off shortly after the message saying to “take cover” went out. Military officials said it was a “false alarm”. The elementary school on the base was put on lockdown, and once it was deemed safe, students were released early.
