After waiting all summer for the New York Giants’ Week 1 debut of the 2025 NFL season, fans were “rewarded” with the same brand of football they’ve been forced to watch for over a decade now. Translation: bad football.
Big Blue fell to their division rivals the Washington Commanders in a 21-6 loss on Sunday with their losing ways proudly on display.
Here’s the running list of usual suspects:
- An offense that can’t move the ball downfield
- A line that looks allergic to blocking
- Play-calling that feels like it was drawn up in the 1940’s
- Tackles that should come with a “some assembly required” label
- Injuries (because, tradition)
- Players who look more confused than coached
- Dropped passes
- Zero momentum out of the gate (hello, quick 3-and-out)
- Malik Nabers already frustrated and it’s only Week 1
- Red zone woes
- And the kicker: a former Giants QB thriving elsewhere just to twist the knife
But really, what’s new? Giants fans have mastered the art of disappointment. They’ve had a lot of practice to say the least.
Front Office or Front Farce?
Since Tom Coughlin’s exit, coaching regimes have come and gone like Times Square tourists but the stink lingers. At some point, you’ve got to ask: maybe it isn’t the headset guys. Maybe the rot is upstairs.
How long do Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll get a free pass before someone points that the front office is fumbling the ball too?
The Carousel of Chaos
Yes, the Giants drafted Jaxson Dart who is supposedly “Daboll’s guy” which should be a glimmer of hope. Except… if 2025 turns into a rerun of 2024, does Daboll even survive long enough to develop him?
Do you bench Russell Wilson to see what the rookie’s got? If so, why did you bring Russ here on a one-year deal in the first place? If not, then what’s the plan? Is it just another wasted season where the team circles the drain?
Classic Giants logic.
Here We Go Again
Another season, same smell. No momentum, no answers, and plenty of questions. The only thing consistent about the New York Giants is that they consistently remind fans that hope is the cruelest play in their playbook.
