On October 3, East Orange High School took home its 5th consecutive win against Bloomfield. With only 5 games in the books this year, the Jaguars are currently a 1.000 team. They are currently first in the SFC Freedom Red division, and have four more games to come. Students and fans are wondering, can they go 9-0 this year?
East Orange is halfway through its season and has conquered Livingston (27-0), West Side (30-0), Montclair (48-0), Orange (47-0), and now Bloomfield (34-6).
Prior to their game against Bloomfield, East Orange had conquered four teams without letting up a single point scored against them. They beat Livingston (27-0), West Side (30-0), Montclair (48-0), and Orange (47-0). In the third quarter of their game against Bloomfield, Tayler Guerrero earned his team a run, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Jaguars from taking home the win.
Quadir Parrish, a senior at East Orange, is currently leading the team in tackles. At the game against Montville, he completed 14 tackles, helping his team to a 48-to-nothing win. This year, he has recorded 42 tackles, bringing his all-time total to 83.
On the receiving end, another senior, Alex Hanks, has led the offense. With 261 receiving yards this year and 1,180 all-time, he has been a leading contributor to the success of the Jaguars. Similarly, Junior Jaleel Halsey showed up this year with the intention to win. Only in his first season on Varsity, he has earned 405 rushing yards and 46 carries so far this season.
One of the Jaguars’ secret weapons is Zachary Concepcion, a junior quarterback. This year, Concepcion has 544 passing yards, 40 completions, and 8 passing touchdowns. In their first game against Livingston, he threw a total of 157 yards to earn 13 completions and three touchdowns. The 6-foot-1 QB has made a name for himself, and has a whole season, along with four more games, to continue to show up.
The statistics across their whole team are undeniably impressive. Just to name a few, the team has put up a combined 629 passing yards, 650 receiving yards, 816 rushing yards, 24 touchdowns, 234 tackles, and 21 PATs (Point After Touchdowns). The Jaguars’ success is not luck, but instead talent and determination. With their skilled and veteran players, the team has a strong season behind, and ahead of them.
