On Saturday, the Jets and Giants squared off in the annual Snoopy Bowl. Big Blue delivered a solid showing, while Gang Green left plenty to be desired. The Giants rolled to a 31–12 win at MetLife Stadium and for the first time in a long time, Giants fans are seeing something that feels foreign: competency at quarterback. Yes, even if it’s only preseason.
After six years of watching Daniel Jones check down and stare down receivers, fans finally got to see a Super Bowl champion under center. With Russell Wilson at the helm, plus Jameis Winston and Jaxson Dart behind him, New York suddenly has a quarterback room with depth, experience, and excitement.
But while fans are clamoring for Dart, the Giants’ plan is clear: QB1 belongs to Wilson.
Letting Russ Cook
Wilson may have struggled in Denver and Pittsburgh in recent years, but in New York, he looks re-energized. His leadership, clarity, and experience were on full display Saturday. Accurate and decisive, he connected with rookie receiver Beaux Collins on an 80-yard bomb, one of the highlights of the night.
On his lone interception, head coach Brian Daboll downplayed it:
“I wasn’t too worried about it. That’s two guys that haven’t worked on a particular route.”
And while most veterans would avoid preseason snaps this late in their careers, Wilson made it clear he welcomes them:
“I like playing in the preseason. I like playing any time I get a chance.”
For Wilson, every snap is an opportunity to build chemistry with his new offense, and it shows.
Darting to QB2?
Jaxson Dart has been one of the buzz stories of Giants camp, but the team is adamant about his role. Daboll reiterated after the game:
“Russ is our starter, and we’re going to keep developing Jaxson.”
Dart has flashed plenty of promise, finishing 14 of 16 for 137 yards and a touchdown on Saturday, but both his coaches and teammates stress patience. Dart himself is humble about the process:
“The knowledge in the quarterback room is very humbling. I’m just trying to improve each day.”
With Wilson and Winston mentoring him, and the Giants adhering to their developmental plan, Dart appears positioned for growth, but not a starting job just yet.
