Gotham FC has agreed to transfer forward Gabi Portilho to San Diego Wave FC, the club announced Monday. Gotham will receive $175,000 in intraleague transfer funds for the Brazilian international, who joined the club ahead of the 2025 season.
“Gabi has been an important part of our club’s success since she joined us, and we’re thankful for everything she brought to Gotham FC,” said Yael Averbuch West, the club’s general manager and head of soccer operations. “We wish her all the best as she moves forward in her career.”
Portilho joined Gotham from Brazilian powerhouse Corinthians, where she spent five seasons and established herself as a prolific forward. She made an immediate impact in the NWSL, becoming the ninth player in Gotham history to score in her regular-season debut and the first Brazilian in league history to do so, netting Gotham’s lone goal in a 1-1 draw against Seattle Reign FC on March 16, 2025.
In 17 regular-season appearances, Portilho recorded three goals and three assists. She started in both the quarterfinal and semifinal matches of the 2025 NWSL Playoffs, helping Gotham secure its second NWSL title in three seasons. She also contributed to Gotham’s victory in the 2025 Concacaf W Champions Cup, adding international experience to a team already competing at the highest levels.
Portilho proved to be a reliable squad player throughout her time with Gotham, providing depth and flexibility in attack. While her contributions on the field will be missed, Gotham enters the 2026 season with a strong roster that includes a mix of experienced starters and emerging talent. The club has the pieces in place to replace her role and continue its run of success both in the NWSL and in international competitions.
