New York Mets – David Stearns, Mets President of Baseball Operations, has already started making a number of moves this offseason – Strategizing around signing Juan Soto.
Trades
Jose Siri – Outfield Depth
Having made his MLB Debut in 2021, the 29-year-old outfielder boasts a career .210 AVG with 54 home runs and 136 RBI. Siri is an interesting addition to the Mets and alludes to a heightened focus on defensive sabermetics. The outfielder is known for his speed and range and ranks in the top percentile in categories such as Outs Above Average, Field Speed, and Arm Strength, per Baseball Savant. Siri is a great grab for the Mets in a clubhouse-sense as well, having a few instances of confrontation and edginess on the field – Something Mets fans love about another outfielder and current free agent, Jesse Winker. Siri is a “cost effective” alternative to Harrison Bader, allowing for more financial flexibility as conversations of Soto’s prospective contract continue.

Tendered Players
As of the Nov. 22 non-tender deadline – The Mets have tendered contracts to all but three arbitration-eligible players. Those that have received the tender offer include David Peterson, Tyrone Taylor, Paul Blackburn, Tylor Megill, and Luis Torrens.
David Peterson
LHP David Peterson dealt a notable outing for the Mets in their NLCS run, with a 12-6 win in Game Five to force a Game 6. He also provided some bullpen relief; but has certainly earned a starting role in the rotation. Not only did Peterson showcase a dominant approach in the postseason but had a successful 2024 season overall. The lefty went 10-3 with a 2.90 ERA over 121 IP. He is certainly a desired return for the fans in Queens.
Tyrone Taylor
Tyrone Taylor surely proved himself worthy of a starting role for 2025 with some outfield flair in the 2024 postseason. We all remember that barehanded catch off the wall to keep a Mets lead in Game Three of the NLDS; and you surely can’t forget him going all out on Tommy Edman’s hit to the warning track in Game Three of the NLDS. The outfielder slashed a .248/.299/.401 for 2024.

Paul Blackburn
RHP Paul Blackburn had undergone surgery in October of 2024 to repair a cerebrospinal fluid leak, but is expected to be available for the 2025 season. He had gone 5-4 with a 4.66 ERA in the 2024 regular season.
Tylor Megill
RHP Tylor Megill is also an instrumental arm for the Mets having gone 4-5 with an ERA of 4.04 over 78.1 IP in 2024. Megill made an appearance in the 2024 postseason with the club as well.
Luis Torrens
Backup catcher Luis Torrens was also tendered a contract by the Mets this offseason. He slashed a .229/.292/.373 to finish out 2024. While there isn’t much depth behind Mets Catcher Francisco Alvarez, it’s noted that Torrens is an excellent addition defensively – Having ranked in the 94th percentile in Caught Stealing Above Average and Pop Time, per Baseball Savant.
In Agreement
Sean Reid-Foley
The Mets have also agreed to terms with RHP Sean Reid-Foley to avoid arbitration on a one-year deal. The bullpen arm appeared in 23 games and posted a 1.66 ERA in 2024 for the Mets.
Minor League Moves
The Mets front office has made some minor league moves as well – Having tendered contracts to first baseman/outfielder Joey Meneses, RHP Hobie Harris, and catcher Jakson Reetz. Other farm-signings include RHP Justin Hagenman, RHP Rico Garcia, RHP Kevin Herget, infielder Donovan Walton. Outfielder Rafael Ortega is due to return on a minor league deal as well.
Non-Tenders
The Mets have non-tendered three players this past week as well – including OF Alex Ramirez, RHP Grant Hartwig, and LHP Alex Young.
