The top two seeds of the high school baseball Hudson County Tournament met in the championship game at Miller Stadium.
The top-seeded Bayonne Bees entered this matchup after taking down fifth-seeded Union City. The second-seeded St. Peter’s Prep Marauders beat third-seeded North Bergen 10-0 in five innings due to the mercy rule.
The Marauders held opponents scoreless during their run to the championship game, and this year marked their fifth straight appearance. Bayonne and St. Peter’s split in the regular season. Each game in the regular season was decided by one run. It shows how tough a matchup it is between these two teams, and there was no better stage to continue that than at Miller Stadium.
In the bottom of the first inning, Brandon Drago hit a home run deep to left field for Bayonne to give the Bees an early 1-0 lead.
Both teams would remain scoreless until the sixth inning. Andrew Breihof cracked a ball up the middle for a base hit, and Jonathan Lopez ran home to tie it at one.
In the top of the seventh, David Tallarrida hit an RBI double down the left field line. Anthony Huaranga was able to slide safely into home plate as the Marauders took a 2-1 lead. Then, in the bottom of the seventh with a 3-2 count, Huaranga struck out Ian Geisler to secure the championship for St. Peter’s Prep.
Logan Chi had a big-time game for St. Peter’s, pitching 6.2 innings, allowing only one run, and 10 strikeouts. Breihof, Lopez, Tallarrida, and Huaranga made big-time plays to secure the win. Chris Lopez pitched 5.1 innings, allowed one run, four walks, and seven strikeouts for Bayonne.
St. Peter’s won their 17th Hudson County Championship. It was their fourth championship in the last five years, winning in 2022, 2023, 2025, and now 2026. The Marauders complete the repeat and have a chance next season to three-peat.
