“Trenton Makes, the World Takes” has always been more than a slogan. It represents grit, resilience, and the pride of a city that once powered the nation through its manufacturing strength. From steel and rubber to pottery and wire rope, Trenton helped shape industries that reached far beyond New Jersey. That same blue-collar spirit is now driving a long awaited revival on the ice.
In April 2013, financial difficulties forced the ECHL Trenton Titans to leave the city, bringing an abrupt end to professional hockey in Trenton and leaving a passionate fan base without a team to rally behind. For more than a decade, the Cure Insurance Arena stood quiet during winter nights that once echoed with cheers. Now, 13 years later, those echoes are ready to return.
Professional hockey is officially coming back as the Utah Grizzlies relocate due to ownership health challenges and plans to sell the franchise. The team will take on a new identity as the Trenton Ironhawks and is set to begin play next season, ushering in a fresh era of hockey built around community, accessibility, and renewed local pride.
Early signs suggest the region is more than ready.
At a recent fan fest held at the Cure Insurance Arena, more than 1,000 fans filled the building, delivering a powerful statement of support. Families, longtime hockey loyalists, and first time fans poured into the arena to experience the Ironhawks up close. Merchandise flew off the shelves as fans toured the locker room, tested their slapshots, and shared in the excitement of something special taking shape. The atmosphere was electric from start to finish, surprising even arena staff who had not seen that level of turnout in years.
For a state that has struggled at times to consistently fill seats for professional hockey, the fan fest served as a clear reminder that New Jersey remains deeply passionate about the sport. The connection between the Ironhawks and their fans is already forming, driven by shared history, loyalty, and a hunger to bring winning hockey back home.
The event also featured remarks from newly appointed Team President Bob Ohrablo, who spoke passionately about the vision for the franchise and its commitment to Trenton. His message resonated with the crowd and was followed by a hype video that lit up the arena and sent energy through every section. The cheers that followed felt less like a preview and more like opening night.
As the Ironhawks prepare for their inaugural season, anticipation continues to build. The return of professional hockey is more than just a new team, it is a symbol of revival, pride, and belief in what Trenton can be once again. This time, Trenton takes. The world can wait. The Ironhawks are ready to soar and the city is ready to roar.
