Gotham FC will host the Washington Spirit on Wednesday night at Subaru Park for a decisive Group B clash in the 2025-26 Concacaf W Champions Cup.

Gotham (3-0-0, 9 points) enters the match at the top of Group B, boasting a perfect record and the longest winning streak in tournament history with five straight victories. A win would give the reigning champions a flawless group stage campaign and secure first place in the group, while even a draw would be enough to clinch a spot in next spring’s semifinals.

The club’s form has been dominant. In its most recent Champions Cup outing, the Bats rolled past Vancouver Rise FC Academy with a 4-1 victory in Canada. Josefine Hasbo, Katie Stengel, Esther González and Bruninha all found the scoresheet, extending Gotham’s unbeaten all-time record in the competition to (7-0-2).

That performance also highlighted the squad’s depth: González scored just one minute after coming on, setting a new tournament record for the fastest goal by a substitute, while Stengel and Bruninha both tallied their second career Champions Cup goals. Remarkably, nine different Gotham players have scored at least twice in the competition, more than any other club.

Washington (2-0-0, 6 points) arrives in Philadelphia with momentum of its own. The Spirit are unbeaten in their first Champions Cup campaign and have yet to concede a goal while scoring 11 across their opening two matches, including a 4-0 win earlier this month. Wednesday’s matchup will be the Spirit’s toughest test yet — and their first-ever meeting with Gotham in the Champions Cup.

The clash also adds another chapter to one of the NWSL’s most familiar rivalries. It marks the 43rd all-time meeting between Gotham and Washington, and their second meeting at Subaru Park in as many years. Last summer, Gotham edged the Spirit 1-0 in the NWSL x Liga MX Summer Cup at the same venue.

HEAD COACH JUAN CARLOS AMORÓS
On tomorrow’s match against Washington:
“So far, it’s been a great competition. Credit to the organization — CONCACAF has done a really good job of making elite women’s football accessible to so many countries. The tournament itself has been fantastic, though very demanding with all the travel across such a wide region. We’ve been to incredible places like El Salvador and Canada, and Monterrey was also a very special experience. Now we face a more familiar opponent in Washington, but it’s still a very important game for us. Hopefully we can finish the group strong with a win.”

On having these games to give more players extra minutes:
“For us, this is where the women’s game should be — playing in international competition. It’s extremely demanding, especially with all the travel across this region, but if the NWSL wants to be the best league in the world, just competing with ourselves isn’t enough. This tournament gives us the chance to qualify for the FIFA Women’s Club World Cup, which is massive. It allows us to be pioneers for the women’s game, and that’s a great opportunity. The league itself is already very demanding, but these matches add another layer of importance and create opportunities for everyone.”

MIDFIELDER JOSEFINE HASBO
On earning Player of the Match honors against Vancouver and facing Washington:
“Ultimately, I approach tomorrow’s game like any other: it’s a match we want to win. We need to stay very focused and disciplined to be successful in all phases of the game. Hopefully we can continue the success we’ve shown in the Concacaf W Champions Cup so far.”

On the importance of the tournament for Gotham and establishing the club as a global brand:
“It’s incredible — both for us as a club and for me as a player — to compete in so many different places we wouldn’t normally get the chance to play. It’s an opportunity to show that we have the level to compete anywhere, and it’s been a great experience so far. Tomorrow we’ll face another NWSL opponent, a team we’ve played before, but I firmly believe that if we continue building on what we’ve shown in the last couple of games, we have a great chance to perform well.”

Both sides enter unbeaten, but only one can finish atop Group B. With Gotham chasing perfection and Washington looking to continue its defensive dominance, Wednesday’s showdown promises to be one of the marquee fixtures of the group stage.

Following the match, Gotham will shift focus back to league play, returning to Sports Illustrated Stadium on Sunday, October 5, to host Seattle Reign FC in NWSL action.
