Gotham FC Trades Midfielder Josefine Hasbo to Boston Legacy FC

By David Macaulay-Smith

Gotham FC has traded midfielder Josefine Hasbo to Boston Legacy FC in exchange for $50,000 in allocation money, the club announced Thursday. The move comes as Gotham looks to manage roster flexibility and prepare for the upcoming season.

Hasbo joined Gotham in June 2025 after a standout four-year career at Harvard University, where she earned All-Ivy honors and served as team captain. She quickly adapted to the professional level, making 11 appearances across all competitions in her rookie season, including seven starts, and scoring her first professional goal on Sept. 16 against Vancouver Rise FC Academy in the Concacaf W Champions Cup.

“Josie has been a valued member of our team, and we want to thank her for the professionalism and commitment she brought to Gotham FC,” said Yael Averbuch West, the general manager and head of soccer operations. “We appreciate her contributions to the club and wish her nothing but success as she continues the next chapter of her career in Boston.”

During her time with Gotham, Hasbo earned praise for her tactical versatility and composure in the midfield. She helped the team maintain balance during both NWSL and international competitions and contributed to key moments in the Concacaf W Champions Cup, creating scoring opportunities that highlighted her potential to make an impact in high-pressure games.

Although still early in her professional career, Hasbo was part of the squad that captured the 2025 NWSL Championship, gaining valuable experience alongside seasoned teammates. Her departure opens up playing time for Gotham’s developing midfielders, while Boston Legacy FC acquires a young, technically skilled player with international experience who could quickly grow into a central role.

The trade marks a new chapter for Hasbo, giving her the chance to build on her rookie season in a club where she may see expanded opportunities, while Gotham gains flexibility to continue shaping its roster for sustained success.
