HARRISON, NJ — Jaedyn Shaw’s 16th-minute finish proved decisive as Gotham FC defeated Racing Louisville 1-0 on Sunday night at Sports Illustrated Stadium, completing a perfect three-win week and strengthening its early-season position near the top of the NWSL standings.
The victory marked Gotham’s third straight win and its third in an eight-day stretch, following earlier results against Bay FC and the Chicago Stars. With the run, Gotham moved into fourth place through six weeks of league play while continuing to separate itself as one of the most balanced teams in the competition.
At the heart of that balance is a defense that continues to make history. Sunday’s shutout was Gotham’s sixth in eight matches, extending the best defensive start the league has ever seen. Goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger added another milestone to her standout campaign, setting a new NWSL record for most clean sheets to begin a season with six.
The only goal of the match arrived in the 16th minute and showcased Gotham’s growing chemistry in the final third. Rookie forward Jordynn Dudley sparked the sequence with a burst of pace down the flank, beating her defender before delivering a precise, low square ball across the face of goal. Shaw arrived in stride and finished calmly from close range to give Gotham an early lead it would never relinquish.
Dudley’s contribution continued a breakout stretch in her first professional season. She now has three goal contributions in her last three appearances, assisting against Bay FC, scoring against the Chicago Stars, and adding another assist against Louisville. With that run, she also became just the second rookie in club history to record a goal contribution in three consecutive matches, joining Sarah Schupansky.
From there, Gotham controlled the match with discipline and organization. Racing Louisville pressed for an equalizer in the second half, but clear chances were rare against a compact defensive structure that has become Gotham’s defining trait this season. Berger remained composed when needed, and the back line delivered another assured performance to secure the clean sheet.
Head coach Juan Carlos Amorós praised the group’s response during a demanding stretch of fixtures.
“It’s one of the games I’m proudest of in my time here,” Amorós said. “It was an incredibly demanding week. The players were asked to do a lot. They did it at the highest level, not only the starters but also the players who came from the bench. Today they were fantastic.”
Amorós also highlighted Dudley’s rapid adaptation and growing influence.
“Everyone knew she could make a difference, but her commitment to defend, press and counter press is part of the DNA of Gotham,” he said. “She is generous and humble, and she plays for the team. She’s growing and developing, and the players around her love playing with her.”
He added that Gotham’s improved attacking output is rooted in increasing tactical cohesion and familiarity.
“The technical staff has done a lot of work, especially on the tactical side, creating connections and understanding movements in and around the box,” Amorós said. “With more time playing together, the chemistry is building, and that consistency is helping them take the next step.”
Dudley said her comfort level continues to grow with each appearance.
“Definitely a lot more comfortable,” she said. “We’ve gotten more comfortable with each other on the field, especially me coming in. They’ve helped me a lot with speaking and just connecting.”
Shaw credited the group’s mentality after a physically and mentally demanding week.
“It was really great to get three wins and three shutouts in a row,” Shaw said. “It’s been a tough week with travel midweek, but the team came together, had to grind the game out and push until the end. I’m really proud of us for getting clean sheets and scoring early.”
