Welcome to the Saquon Show: From Philly to DC

By Nikki Gist

Saquon Barkley had himself a Friday.

From a productive day at Eagles training camp to his appointment to the “President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition,” the star running back is making his presence known up and down the Northeast Corridor.

Putting on a Show: Philly

The lights may shine bright in New York, but nothing shines quite like a Super Bowl ring. And even though the Eagles are coming off a championship season, they’re not resting. They’re reloading.

If the Eagles stay healthy, there’s no reason to doubt that the road to the NFC Championship (and maybe the Super Bowl) might just run through the Schuylkill and Saquon Barkley for that matter.

Laying that foundation in the summer is what championship teams do, and Barkley was all business at camp today.

With A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith sitting out the second half of practice, Barkley saw an uptick in touches. So for anyone thinking the Eagles might limit his workload, think again.

During red zone drills, Barkley caught a pass over the middle, ran it in for a touchdown, added a 2-point conversion, and sprinkled in a little trash talk while he was at it. All in a day’s work.

The Saquon Show Hits the Road: DC

As if Friday wasn’t busy enough, it was also announced that Saquon Barkley has been appointed to the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition.

This comes after President Trump’s announcement that the Presidential Fitness Test would be making a comeback in schools.

According to the White House, the Council “Aims to support the development of the Presidential Fitness Award, working in partnership with athletes, coaches, teams, and schools to champion access to fitness and healthy living for all Americans. The Council will also play an important role in restoring tradition to college athletics.”

In addition to Barkley, members of the Council include:

  • Chair: Bryson DeChambeau
  • Executive Director: Catherine Granito
  • Members: Gary Bettman, Nick Bosa, Harrison Butker, Cody Campbell, Roger Goodell, Wayne Gretzky, Nelly Korda, Paul “Triple H” Levesque, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Mariano Rivera, Tony Romo, Annika Sörenstam, Tua Tagovailoa, Lawrence Taylor, and Matthew Tkachuk.

We look forward to seeing how the Council impacts youth sports and school fitness programs across the country.
